Classical Ballet

Classical ballet encourages muscle development, flexibility, good posture, balance, discipline and strength.

Most dance disciplines are derivations of classical ballet and it remains as a great foundation for those wishing to expand into other genres. A classical ballet tuition provides the student with the opportunity for advanced technical proficiency, that is easily transferrable into other genres. Both directors at IWD had their own early grounding in classical ballet and are strong advocates for its inclusion in any dance training regime, to this day.

Inner West Dance subscribes to the Internationally recognised Cecchetti Syllabus and methodologies. Cecchetti exams are not compulsory, however if interested, IWD encourages all students undertaking classical ballet to use the exams as a performance goal, and as important stepping stones in the ongoing advancement of their technical proficiency.

Pre pointe classes are available for those dancers in Grade 6 at school and higher. Dancers must attend a minimum of two ballet technique classes.

Pointe classes are available for advanced dancers after they have been given approval from a qualified physiotherapist through a pre-pointe assessment. Dancers must attend a minimum of two ballet technique classes to be eligible.
